Every Sunday this month, AWCC grizzlies Hugo, Joe Boxer, and Patron will receive a fresh roadkill moose leg. In May, a white Chevy mangled the moose so severely that the Alaska State Troopers deemed it unfit for human consumption. On Mother’s Day, Mike gave the bears the moose carcass and saved its other quarters for future feeding demonstrations.
Very excitingly, AWCC just received a million dollar Alaskan legislative appropriation to begin constructing its new BEARS (Bear Education Awareness Research Sanctuary) of Alaska Interpretive Center. BEARS will provide extensive information about the state’s three bears— brown (grizzly), black, and polar— include a 200-seat theater, and hopefully receive LEED certification. Mike is over the moon about the opportunity!
